Hugh Jones Solicitors has once again pledged its support to seven charities by participating in the Will Aid scheme, raising more than ever.
The firm has participated in the Will Aid scheme for several years. Every November, it helps raise vital donations by writing basic wills and waiving its usual fee. Instead, it invites clients to make an upfront donation to Will Aid.
Since its first participation in 2019, the firm has raised over £10,000 for Will Aid. 2024 was a record-breaking year for donations, with Hugh Jones Solicitors raising almost £4,000 and ranking fourth for fundraising in the northwest.
Charlotte Crawford, director and head of the private client team, said, “Will Aid is an exceptional campaign that offers people the chance to get a professionally written will while supporting important causes that improve lives both here in the UK and around the world.
“As solicitors, we’re delighted to volunteer our time and expertise to support such a fantastic campaign and are hoping to raise a lot of money that will go towards supporting vulnerable people both here in the UK and overseas, many of whom have been further impacted by the cost-of-living crisis.”
Solicitors taking part in the campaign waive their fees for will-writing services throughout November, instead inviting clients to voluntarily donate to Will Aid.
The suggested voluntary donation for a basic single will is £100, or £180 for a pair of mirror Wills. Donations support seven of the UK’s best-loved charities: Age UK, the British Red Cross, Christian Aid, the NSPCC, Save the Children, SCIAF (Scotland), and Trócaire (Northern Ireland).
In total, Will Aid has raised more than £24 million in donations and many millions more in pledged legacies for the nine partner charities since it launched in 1988. Celebrity supporters include national treasure Dame Judi Dench and Robert Peston.
In 2024, the charity conducted a poll that revealed that 67% of UK adults either don’t have a Will or have an out-of-date one.
Peter de Vena Franks, Will Aid campaign director, said: “We are very grateful that Hugh Jones Solicitors signed up to the campaign again. Only thanks to the commitment of firms volunteering their time can the campaign continue to raise much-needed donations for our partner charities.
“More than half of UK adults still do not have a Will, so this Will Aid month is a great time to tick that task off your list while supporting the incredible work of our partner charities.”
