Rachel is a solicitor and the Managing Director of Hugh Jones Solicitors and works with Chairman Hugh Jones and Finance Director Jon Miller to manage the firm. Rachel's responsibilities include HR and Compliance Regulation for Hugh Jones Solicitors and as an adviser to clients.
As a Director of the Hugh Jones Trust Corporation, Rachel acts as Finance and Property Deputy for a number of clients, specialising in those living with dementia and where there are complex property or family issues to resolve. Rachel says:
'I really enjoy working with our clients who are living with dementia, many of them are great characters! Often a professional deputy is needed where the client has no surviving spouse, children or siblings to step in and make sure that their money and property is being safeguarded and that they are in suitable Residential Care.
Sometimes, we are asked by Local Authorities to apply to become Professional Deputy at the point that a client can no longer live at home and there are no close relatives. We will make sure that the client's favourite belongings including photographs move with them, look after their valuable items and manage their money and property to make sure these are applied to funding the client's care.
We may be the only ones to visit a client in their care home and if we are, we'll make sure we keep in regular contact and make more frequent visits, pro bono if need be.'
Rachel leads the HR team at HJS who provide a range of employment and HR services to families where support teams are employed to look after clients, including contract drafting, DBS checks, Data Privacy/GDPR requirements, payroll, pensions and dealing with employee problems and disciplinary issues.
Rachel also manages and supervises solicitors in the firm in both the Court of Protection and Private Client teams.
Rachel helped Hugh Jones set up the practice in 2013, having previously been a partner with Hugh at Pannone LLP for many years, where she was head of Operations, responsible for HR, Compliance, Regulation and IT - she was Director of HR for the seven year period when Pannone was the highest placed law firm in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to work for.
Rachel joined Pannone in 1992 as a trainee solicitor, having previously worked in commercial management with Marks and Spencer, following her graduation from St Hugh's College, Oxford with an MA (Hons) in Modern History.
Rachel is recommended in the Legal 500 2019:
'Rachel Dobson ‘fills her client with confidence’.'
