Associate level appointment

We are looking to make a full time appointment of an experienced Court of Protection specialist solicitor of at least three years’ experience. The Court of Protection team is headed by Director Elizabeth Hughes, under Managing Director Hugh Jones, who is an OPG panel deputy.

The team was named in the Legal 500 2017 as:

‘one of, if not the premier legal practices dealing with Court of Protection work and acting for those with compromised mental capacity in England and Wales’. 

In addition in 2017, the team was awarded “Private Client Team of the year” in the Manchester Legal Awards and was awarded “highly commended” (i.e. second place nationally) in the Law Society Excellence Awards.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of seven qualified lawyers and eight Administrators (paralegal grade D fee earners) managing a caseload of Finance and Property deputyship files. Our clients include those clients who have lost capacity following a birth injury or accident and have received damages following a PI or clinical Negligence claim and clients living with dementia and other illnesses. We undertake a significant amount of contested, high-value Court of protection work including cases with jurisdictional issues and financial abuse investigation work.

Work will include daily contact with clients, their families and carers, case management and support teams; you will give advice on a wide range of practical and legal issues and undertake applications to the Court.

The successful candidate will have experience of a significant proportion of the following:

Experience in more traditional Private Client work, particularly will and trust deed drafting will be helpful.
